More states seem to be moving to the hands free driving law

I actually feel that when you are operating a large machine that has the potential to instill damage and perhaps even death in others, you should probably focus on the task at hand and not talk on the phone.  I mean, would you really operate a band saw without giving it your full attention?  Probably not.  But with driving, because we do it everyday it becomes automatic and we don’t even think about the fact that we are dividing our attention.  And don’t even get me started about texting while driving.

Clearly, most times, it’s going to be fine.  But what about that time when the person coming towards you veers off course because he is texting and you don’t notice because you are texting.

I mean, it hasn’t been that long that people have actually been able to do this anyway.  I am old enough to remember life without cell phones.  And driving without cell phones.  But now everyone has this sense of entitlement, that since we can, we should talk on the phone while driving.

Okay enough of my rant.  The point that I wanted to make when I started writing this post was to point out that I’m in California and we put the hands free law through just about a year ago.  Although people complained at first, it really ended up being no big deal.  So all you people in states that are considering it now, just use a headset.  How hard is that?
