No one got fired...
I've worked in a lot of call centers, and the Plantronics H-Series is pretty much standard equipment — the Supra being the most popular headset I've seen. Its functional rather than elegant - but its really long lasting and high quality for the price. To borrow an overused phrase "No one ever got fired for buying Supras." Unless you're on a real tight budget, and who isn't, get the Noise-Canceling mic over the voice tubes. In the long run it will pay for itself anyway - voice tubes are kind of disposable parts, and over a few yeas the cost of replacing them will add up to the difference in price for the noise-canceling mic and the quality is so much better.
If you're in any doubt about the different types, try a Supra first - if it doesn't match your expectations, upgrade to the Encore or loose the headband completely and get a Mirage or TriStar.

The Plantronics Supra is a very good, inexpensive headset. It is comfortable, lightweight and durable. It's not an exciting headset with fabulous sound, but if you're looking to furnish a call center with good inexpensive headsets, or maybe want to try a headset for the first time and not spend a lot, this is a good one to buy.

Our employees really love the Supra headset over that of (a competitor). It is more comfortable, durable, and sounds better. The quick disconnect is a real timesaver.

The replacement foam pads are at least as good as the original pads that came with my headset about seven years ago.
