Stereo Bluetooth headsets…perfect for those who use their phone to listen to music. Which may or may not be the best reason to choose a phone… these days is there anything that a phone apparently can’t do aside from heat up your lunch, but I’m sure someone’s working on it. The 855 combines some of Plantronics cutting edge technology with some basic goofs. I really like the telescoping boom that serves as an answer / end control, that’s great and an idea that’s well overdue. The stereo option is a little unwieldy with the wire over the back of your head, and the speakers don’t provide booming bass for music, but chances are that if you’re doing most of your music listening through your phone, audiophile specs aren’t your first concern. Overall I like the headset, the sound is pretty good (though not quite as stellar as I was hoping from the telescoping boom), but my main beef is with the ear loop that stabilizes the headset in addition to the eargel. For a headset with some brand-new features, the flimsy, un-adjustable earhook is glaringly unsophisticated. Like I said, the headset has a lot of great things about it, but I’d just use the 815 (the non-stereo version) of this to talk on the phone and stick with my Pulsar 590 for music.
For wireless phone call use and listening to stereo music from the phone they work just fine. Audio quality is OK not fantastic. Even with a sub-mini adapter coming from my expensive Bose ear buds I only get one sided listening. The Plantronics 855 headset cured the problem and with no wires.
