Cellular Recommendations
When polled about what is most important to cellular headset users,
by far sound clarity is the number one concern. Spotty
coverage and ambient noise plague most cell phone conversations but
a cellular headset is a low cost investment that improves sound quality
on both ends of the line.
As with telephone headsets, there are many different styles and features
that boast a variety of advantages. The Over-the-Head
style of headset is the least popular among cell phone users and
the reason is portability. While this style is the most comfortable
and stable, it is less likely to fit in your pocket or purse.
The most popular cellular headsets are the In-the-Ear
style and there are two main reasons for this. The first
is that without the headband, it is easy to fit in a pocket or in
your glove compartment. Second, the In-the-Ear design blocks out more
ambient noise allowing you to hear the caller better. There are two
kinds of microphones that come with the In-the-Ear headsets. One is
the "dangle" microphone. This type "dangles" from speaker and is known
for picking up more than just the voice of the cell owner. For
those interested in noise isolation from the environment, there is
also the "boom" microphone. Usually flexible, it sits closer
to your mouth so it picks up more of what you are saying and less
of what is happening around you.
On-the-Ear
headsets are easier to put on and take off than other
headsets. This is popular among drivers who cannot afford
to fumble with a difficult headset. They also sit over the ear, not
in it, which many think is more comfortable.
