Oh My Aching Back!

Press Release Date: September 12, 2006

Everyday there’s a new study released – studies of aircraft noise, coyote breeding habits, pollution, sunshine, daylight & the color of food. And for every study there’s another which contradicts it. One of the few things that seems undisputed is that Americans suffer from back, neck and shoulder pain – about 6 million people of us at any one time

A national study for the American Chiropractic Association indicated that 1/3 of American adults have experienced back pain severe enough for them to seek professional advice (1), while another study estimated that some 80% of us will experience a back problem at some time in our life (2).

We have sore backs, stiff shoulders, tight necks – we all love a friendly massage. Who amongst us doesn't want to just sit back, relax and have someone take our pain away?

If we can’t have that, at least we can start taking steps to avoid it in the first place.

One thing that contributes to back and neck pain is cradling a telephone between our shoulder and neck. This position can be prompted by hundreds of common activities, in the home, as well as the office – writing notes, preparing meals, dressing a child, the list goes on …

A study, in the Santa Clara Valley, found that one way of reducing back pain, neck pain & shoulder tension was the use of telephone headsets, resulting in improvements of up to 41%. Telephone headsets are also known to reduce the chances of work-related physical disorders, especially those in the neck and upper body. These disorders result in medical expenses, worker’s compensation and lost working days. Real costs which are ultimately passed on to consumers as increased prices.

The International Association for the Study of Pain found that chronic pain costs an estimated $100 billion a year. For the sake of our economy let’s try to reduce that.

With this in mind Headsets.com, has teamed with, Plantronics, one of America’s leading headset manufacturers, to distribute a range of corded and wireless headsets for use with normal telephones. The headsets include fully mobile wireless headsets such as the Plantronics CS50, Plantronics CS55 and Plantronics CS351, which help users roam up to 300 feet from the telephone and talk totally “hands free”. No more cradling there!

To ensure the quality of their headsets, Headsets.com and Plantronics specialize in headsets endorsed by the American Physical Therapy Association.

For Headsets.com and Plantronics (provider of headsets to NASA) this may be one small step for man and one giant leap in the fight against pain.
