The AWH55 is just like the CS50 - it looks the same (except for the Avaya logo on it), it has the same talk time, charging, range and noise-canceling features as the CS50 - but with certain Avaya phones, you have the remote answering capability WITHOUT the HL10! Wow!!! This is called “Hookswitch” capability. Which models work that way? Glad you asked!
Optimum capability works like this:
AWH55 plugs into both headset port and EU24 port. Gives remote answering and electronic ring detection. Follow setup 1 in the user's guide with the following Avaya phones ONLY:
2420
4610SW
4620
4620SW
4621SW
4622SW
4625SW
4630SW
5420
5610
5620
9620
9630
9640
9640G
9650
The second best configuration works like this:
AWH55 plugs into the headset port for remote answering. Must use the external ring detector cord to get ringing. Follow Setup 2 in the user's guide with the following Avaya phones ONLY.
2410
2420
6416D+M
6424D+M
IMPORTANT: With all other Avaya phone models the AWH55 works the EXACT SAME WAY as a CS50, requiring the HL10 / HL1, so unless the Customer has one of the phones listed above there is NO ADVANTAGE to using the more expensive AWH55. And the standard CS50 / 55 / etc. will also work just fine with all the phones listed above.
Time for a new headset?
Many Plantronics users have switched to the Leitner LH270!
