The best office phones to use with a headset

Before we begin, we have an important note to consider

It is strongly recommended that you check with your phone provider before purchasing a desk phone for your office.  Many phone systems have a list of compatible phones, and anything not on that list simply won't work.

For example: If you use a landline phone system at your office or home office you will only be able to use landline phones, and will not be able to use VoIP phones.

This list is more of a general guide, but if you reach out to your phone vendor they will be able to tell you if a certain phone you see here will work.  On the flip side, if they have a phone you want to use, give us a call at 1-800-HEADSETS (432-3738) to check compatibility!

Let’s find you the best office phone

If you’re looking for a desk phone that’s compatible with a headset, this list has you covered. We’ll walk you through our top choices to help you find the perfect device.

Our recommendations

Best corded/cordless system: Panasonic KX-TGF350N

Specs:

  • Price: $69.95

  • Batteries: 2 x AAA

  • Amazon rating: 4.4 out of 5

Our favorite features

  • Versatility: Whether you prefer a corded phone or handset, you’ll be taken care of; this system incorporates both types of devices. You can even add up to 5 additional handsets to your setup!

  • Easy use: Everything about this phone was designed to give the user maximum capabilities with minimum effort. Every functionality is intuitive; whether you’re calling someone from your address book or blocking a number, everything you need to do can be accomplished with a push (or two) of a button.

  • Extra capabilities: This phone has lots of extra features that make it a great option. For example, you can know who’s calling without even looking at the phone because of the talking caller ID. You can use it as a baby monitor that will automatically alert your cell phone when the baby cries. You can even pair the phone to a detector keychain and, by pressing a button, set off a sound signal that helps you locate your keys. All of these bonuses and more make for a great user experience.

You’ll love it if…

…you’re working from home. If your office is set up in your own home, this phone system could be a great option. Because it has so many fancy functions (mentioned above) that cater specifically to your home life, if work and home are happening in one place, this is a great phone for you.

Look for a different model if…

…you prefer strictly corded phones or strictly handsets. This system comes with both types of phones. If you’re only looking for one or the other, there’s no need to spend some extra cash in order to get the pair.

Best budget: AT&T CL2909

Specs:

  • Price: $29.41

  • Batteries: optional - 4 x AA for display functionality

  • Amazon rating: 4.2 out of 5

Our favorite features

  • Easy speed dialing: Okay, technically speed dialing is easy by nature. But this office phone streamlines the process even more. 7 easily distinguishable speed dial buttons above the dial pad can be programmed with 2 different phone numbers each, so the speed dial process is even more intuitive than most other phones.

  • Intuitive use: All of the features of this desk phone are super easy to navigate. You could probably get full functionality without even checking out the manual. For anyone who’s less tech savvy, you’ll be able to get maximum capability with minimum hassle with this device.

  • Bang for your buck: Despite being the least expensive option on this list, this phone will still give you all the functionality that you need and then some.

You’ll love it if…

…you aren’t the most tech savvy user. It’s apparent from the reviews of this device but it’s a great option for anybody who feels that technology isn’t their strong suit. It gives you all the functionality you need in a way that isn’t difficult to access.

Look for a different model if…

…you require a backlit display. Despite the pictures in the listing, this phone’s display is not backlit. Because you can adjust the contrast, you’ll be able to see everything on the screen perfectly with the right lighting. However, if an additional light source is a necessity, explore other options.

Best splurge: Cisco IP Phone 8851

Specs:

  • Price: $247.97

  • Batteries: none - uses power cord

  • Amazon rating: 4.5 out of 5

Our favorite features

  • Advanced display: With this office phone, you’ll get a full color display that produces clear text and high-quality imagery. It’s by far the most advanced display on this list, which means navigating settings, looking through your call history, and any other display-oriented functionality will be both easier and better to look at.

  • Cell phone integration: Thanks to the Bluetooth capabilities of this phone, you’ll be able to tether it to your iPhone or Android. That means that you can carry over all of your contacts and call history to your desk phone. It eliminates the need for any tedious contact programming.

  • VoIP: Since this desk phone is internet-powered, it doesn’t operate using a traditional phone line. As long as you have Wi-Fi connection, you’ll be able to communicate effectively.

You’ll love it if…

…you’re looking for added bells and whistles. Because of the high tech display and added functionality, this phone can do pretty much anything you could ask for from a desk phone. With all kinds of short cuts, integrations, and other user experience enhancers, this phone probably won’t leave you wishing for any extra capabilities.

Look for a different model if…

…you like to keep things simple. Whether you’re only planning on using baseline features, or you’re just not particularly tech savvy, check out some other models for a less complex experience. This office phone is pretty high tech, and there will certainly be a learning curve for anyone not used to such advanced office technology.

Best for small businesses: Xblue X16 Small Office Phone System

  • Price: $105.76

  • Batteries: none

  • Amazon rating: 4.6 out of 5

Our favorite features

  • Versatile connection: Whether you’re using a traditional phone line or a VoIP phone line, you’ll be able to do so effectively with this office phone. Since it can hook up to both, it can grow with you if your business transitions from one type of line to another.

  • Small business functionality: These phones operate using an X16 phone system server. You hook all of your phones up to the same server device; they'll each get their own extension, outgoing message, and voicemail box, but they’ll share an easy-to-navigate operating system.

  • Optional VoIP system: XBlue offers VoIP lines for as low as $19.99 per month. Whether you go with a yearly or monthly payment plan, the flat rate will allow you to have as many calls to both the US and Canada as you need. There are no extra costs, and every plan gets you unlimited calling.

Look for a different model if…

…you’re operating a business of any other kind. The X16’s server can support, at maximum, 16 phones. Additionally, all of those phones have to be within a cord length of the server. If you need more than 16 phones, or your setup is more spread out, opt for a different device.
